VISITOR REGULATIONS

PLEASE, READ BEFORE VISITING.

By entering Tata Esterházy Palace you accept the rules and regulations set forth in this policy.

The palace is a special state-owned protected monument; let’s protect our values together!

Our institution employs security guards throughout its entire property and grounds, the operation of whom is regulated by Act CLIX of 1997 on the Armed Safety Duty, and on the Nature Guard and Rural  Guard Duties, as well as BM (Ministry of Interior) ministerial decree No. 27/1998 (10 June) on the Issue of the Operational and Service Rules of Armed Security Guards.

For a pleasant and safe visit, please follow the rules below:

  • To visit the exhibition area and use our services – with the exception of the café – you must have an entrance ticket, which gets validated by our staff before entering the exhibition area. The entrance ticket can be used for a one-time entry on the day of purchase – during opening hours. Please keep your ticket until the end of your visit.
  • Entrance tickets are final, non-refundable, and will not be exchanged for any other tickets. It is not possible to replace lost, destroyed or damaged tickets.
  • The exhibition space, the temporary exhibitions, the palace garden, and the events may be visited by everyone at their own risk.
  • To buy a discounted ticket, please keep your ID card with you and show it at the ticket desk. Otherwise, we will not be able to issue a discounted ticket.
  • Use of the cloakroom is mandatory for the protection of artwork. Bags or packages larger than 30 × 30 cm in size, backpacks and rucksacks worn on the back regardless of size, as well as umbrellas, raincoats and coats, which are carried and not kept on, are not allowed to be taken into the exhibit area. You can store your valuables in the cloakroom, the use of which is free of charge. We take no responsibility for valuables left in the cloakroom.
  • Live animals cannot be placed in the cloakroom.
  • Baby buggies may be placed in the cloakroom.
  • For the safety of artworks and visitors, a security camera system operates in the exhibition area in accordance with the applicable data protection law, consistent with our own data protection regulations. The exhibition spaces and artworks are guarded by the exhibit area protection staff, along with the help of highly trained security guards.
  • It is forbidden to enter the entire area of the palace complex under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicants. Visitors with incomplete clothing are forbidden to enter, even if they hold a valid ticket.
  • In order to protect artworks and equipment from damage, keep a safe distance of 30 cm between you and each work of art, draperies and wall surfaces. Please, do not touch any of the artwork, draperies or wall surfaces.
  • It is forbidden to bring food or drink into the exhibition halls. It is forbidden to bring live animals (except an assistance or guide dog with a valid certificate, trained to assist a disabled person, for the proof of which, please have the certificate on you), plants, weapons or weapon-like objects, piercing and cutting instruments, or any other objects or substances that may be harmful to life, personal safety, health or the artefacts, into the entire grounds of the castle complex. (If medically justified, liquids may be taken in one bottle of up to 0.5 litres only.)
  • It is forbidden to sit on the windowsill in the exhibition area or to use the stairs for purposes other than intended.
  • Visitors are not permitted to enter the palace grounds by car, truck, motorcycle, moped, motor scooter or any other means of transport (except for a vehicle carrying a person with reduced mobility, holding a permission). Visitors arriving by bicycle or scooter can place their bicycles and scooters in the bicycle storage located within the grounds of the palace complex. Cycling is not allowed within the grounds of the palace complex.
  • Taking PHOTOGRAPHS and FILM RECORDING within the grounds of the palace complex is possible only in possession of a special photo ticket purchased at the ticket desk. The use of flash, tripods or selfie sticks is prohibited in the exhibition area. You may use your photographs, as well as film and audio recordings only for your own private and non-commercial purposes. (Wedding photography is available at an additional cost, in a pre-arranged manner and time.) When taking photographs or recording a film, please do not disturb other visitors.
  • USE OF MOBILE PHONES: Please, be mindful of others. Within the premises of the palace complex, turn down the volume of your mobile phone and do not disturb other visitors with your conversation. The use of headphones is mandatory when making a phone call or listening to music at the palace complex.
  • SMALL AND YOUNG CHILDREN: Children under the age of fourteen must be accompanied by an adult in the exhibition space. To protect artefacts and due to the narrow traffic routes, the use of baby buggies is not allowed either. Baby buggies may not be taken into the exhibit area, even folded. Baby buggies may be placed in the cloakroom. In the exhibition space, parents must either hold the hands of or carry children two years of age or under. Baby carriers and baby slings may be worn on the front only. To protect artwork, all other solutions (i.e. using a back carrier, or carrying your child on your shoulders) are forbidden.
  • GROUP VISITS: Only qualified exhibition guides of our museum can introduce our exhibitions (except for guides with a director’s permit). It is the responsibility of the group leader, accompanying teacher, or parent (as well as an external exhibition guide holding a special letter of agreement) to ensure that all members of their group comply with these Visitor Regulations.
  • CLOSING REGULATIONS: Please, leave the exhibit area 10 minutes before the closing time of the museum in order to be able to collect any items left in the cloakroom. The ticket desk closes 1 hour before the end of the prevailing opening hours. Please, observe our opening times when purchasing a combined ticket.
  • LIFT USAGE GUIDELINES: A ramped access to the ticket desk is available to visitors with disabilities, or those in need. The palace can be visited by using a lift located in the northern part of the main building. Should you wish to use it, we kindly ask you to seek the help of our staff. We kindly ask our guests with reduced mobility, those in need and their accompanying visitors to inform our staff of their arrival in advance.
  • SMOKING: Smoking is prohibited within the buildings of the Esterházy Palace. This prohibition extends to the use of electronic cigarettes. Smoking is only allowed in the designated areas throughout the entire grounds of the forecourt and the palace gardens.
  • WASHROOM USAGE GUIDELINES: Washrooms are strictly for the visitors of the palace only.
  • PALACE GARDEN, FORECOURT: It is forbidden to bathe, swim or fish in the pond of the palace garden. It is prohibited to climb on any of the sculptures or works of art (grotto, fountain) situated in the palace garden. It is forbidden to tread on flower beds, perennials, ground cover and shrub surfaces, and to carry out activities on the lawn that disturb others (playing football, etc.).
  • It is forbidden to light a fire on the site of the palace complex.
  • In case of an extraordinary event (e.g. natural disaster, fire, bomb alert, etc.), visitors are obliged to follow the instructions of the employees of Esterházy Palace.
  • We shall take no responsibility for lost property.

Esterházy Palace reserves the right to deny entry to the institution of individuals and groups who do not follow these Visitor Regulations. A visitor who violates these Visitor Regulations, after warning, may be banned from the building for either a specified period of time or permanently, and may be subject to official proceedings. It is either the visitor or the person responsible for him/her who shall be liable for any damages resulting from the violation of these Visitor Regulations. If the violation of these Visitor Regulations is also a breach of law, either the visitor or the person responsible for him/her shall be legally liable and shall be subject to any legal sanctions.
